How to Get Into Kayaking

6 Top (ish) Tips for Beginner Kayakers

After a rather tragic amount of internet browsing, I have realised that it is a somewhat confusing world in which first-time kayakers must find…

Playboater Troubleshooter, A Week in Review

What were we thinking this time around when we approached a new topic with a similar approach to the Whitewater Troubleshooter? Firstly, I wanted to touch base on some key points that I felt once again were being left out of general kayak instruction, this time with the topic of play boating. It's…

Playboater Troubleshooter - Episode 1 - Boat Design, Sizing and Fit

Well, we are underway again at H2o Dreams with a full length instructional feature, this time on the topic of playboating... a personal favorite of mine. Much like the original "Troubleshooter" series we are releasing it in its entirety on the web, for you, free.

We have taken a bit of a different approach in filming and post production this time, as we are continuing to film and edit as…

Thanks to Garath Tate and Laura Farrell for putting the video together.

The Bow Stall

The bow stall is an advanced playboating move that involves balancing vertically on the bow of your kayak in flat water. This move requires amazing control and will take lots of practice to master. Mastering the bow stall will improve your vertical moves and help you better understand the balance points of your kayak.

Viva Mexico !

School's out! Finally, after 11 long semesters of studying excessively, I had all the time to realize this long-cherished wish of mine and go on a proper trip with my kayak. The plan: 5 months of travelling in North, Middle and South America - always in search of the most beautiful pieces of whitewater on the planet. After spending fall 2010 in the Southeast of the USA, playboating all over the place and successfully racing on Russel Fork and Green, the…

Project X can do it all!

I don't think it's a secret that everyone on the Wave Sport team is really excited about the new Project X. It's super loose, releases off of the water with ease, loops huge and is surprisingly stable and smooth on end. For a boat that is only 5'11" long I was shocked at how well it cartwheeled, much easier than any other short boat I've paddled. Even though it has more volume than the Project 52 it's easier to initiate cartwheels because of the slicy side wall and more retentive because of…

Giving Some Thought To Kayaking Injuries

Just the other day I was reading a post by Andy Maser about his experience with a dislocated shoulder. I thought it was interesting, but didn't think too much about it. Afterall, how likely is it that I would dislocate my shoulder kayaking?

The more I think about it though, the more I realize just how often…

Project X at Diagonal Ledges

So if you haven't heard already the Project X is where it's at. This boat is the best playboat I've ever paddled, hands down! Lately I've been paddling a lot with Bryan Kirk on the Upper Gauley and hitting up all of the little holes along the way. Wanting to get the X out on a wave lead us to Diagonal Ledges on the Lower, we liked! Here's a little video I put together of Bryan getting his groove on at Diagonal Ledges,… Continue

Endless River Adventures Blog on Project X - Confessions of a Closet Playboater

About the time that I finally figured out how to get past the third end in a cartwheel, the word on the river was that “cartwheels are out, loops and ariels are in.” Wouldn’t you know once again I would be a move behind when it comes to playboating. But in my quest to figure out cartwheels I had fallen in love with the EZG—partly because I could do flat water cartwheels in it, but also because stability is high on my priority list when it comes… Continue
