On Monday, I will be celebrating my one month anniversary of my shoulder surgery. While a difficult decision to make, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made, as we were able to catch things before my shoulder exploded, so to speak.
Down the road, my shoulder should be…Continue
There's something strange, yet comforting about having surgery where you work. Once you get over the initial, "They're going to see my boobs!," it's awesome. I knew exactly where to go, where to get the warm blankets, and who my nurses were. Turns out, the anesthesiologist was a paddler, as well as the OR nurse. Not to mention, my surgeon is just plain rad. I couldn't have felt in better hands. When the time had come, I waltzed in, plopped down on the OR table and passed…Continue

This would be easier if I had just had a traumatic injury. There would be no questions: I would simply schedule surgery and be on my merry way to rehab. Unfortunately, the last two and a half years have been full of pain, discomfort, frustration, and a whole lot of questions.
The Ohanepecosh River is a spectacularly beautiful Washington classic, located just outside Mt. Rainier National Park.
From Secret to La Wis Wis Campground, the Ohane is generally class IV/V, depending on water levels, and is filled with rapids of all kinds: mini boulder gardens, ledge…Continue

Paddlers gather just below the Finish Line (Photo: Zach Collier)
The day was Saturday, March 13, 2013. The Wind River was at 5.9ft, a perfect medium flow with just enough juice to cover the F’U rocks. The last Pedialyte had been drank, and the…Continue

Since it's December first, we might as well start talking about Christimas. It's only three weeks away, and it's time to start thinking about gifts for your paddling partner(s)!

Anyone remember the time you could barely get in your playboat because your hamstrings were so tight, or the time you were able to cram yourself in, but your hips and low back were sore for days on end afterward? Chances are you’ve got an unhappy pelvis from sitting for hours on end in a retroverted position.…Continue

A few weeks ago, I was fortunate to take part in the making of a commercial for Otter Box's new Armor Series Case for the iPhone. Let's just say it's a pretty rad case, and will allow us paddlers to use our phones…Continue

2012 will be a year to remember for the Wind River Festival and the Western Whitewater Championship Series!
March 17, 2012 was the original date for the fIfth annual Upper Wind River Festival. With faint memories of last year's high water, rain/snow, cold temperatures, and very few racers, organizers moved the race back one week with the hope of more competitors this year. And more competitors there were!
With sunny, clear blue skies, and a…Continue
