White Water Grand Prix photo look back

Without a doubt the Highlight of 2011 was the White Water Grand Prix. As a competitor it was more then I could have imagined, in so many ways, but even for the spectators this event took everyone by surprise. Everything seemed to be firing for event organiser Patrick Camblin; the water levels were cooperating to the fullest…See More

The Classic of all Classics - Mastigouche River, QC

Simon Davidson throws a triumphant fist pump half way down the Finally slide The Mastigouche River in Quebec is a must do on any paddlers wish list. It was on the top of my good friend Simon Davidson's list of rivers to paddle while over in Quebec this past spring. We finally got to paddle it as our last creek of the entire…See More

Spring Fever

Every spring the immense area know as Quebec gives up its icy and snowy grasp on the land, flooding its many large volume rivers. This huge amount of water combined with Quebec's rugged geography produces some of the World's largest standing waves. With a some patients and a bit of luck this can be everything you've been looking for.Stakeout ... isn't a new concept, paddlers have been on stakeouts since forever. Its basic concept is, to be in an area waiting for the correct conditions, water…See More

1st Descent Waihi Stream, NZ's sickest

Waihi Stream is a Kayaker's dream, a 1km stretch of whitewater that drops 100m's over smooth Papa (A soft, clay like rock found in abundance on NZ's east coast), with road acess put-in and take-out. Josh Neilson and Matt Danes had scouted this Jem a couple years back and have been waiting for a rain event big enough to over-flow the dam at the put-in.I had arrived in New Zealand the day before and as always the boys were fired up to see another familar face back in Okere Falls. When Sanga (Sam…See More

CURRENTS - Episode 8 - Thailand

This past August I joined, Louise Urwin, Josh Neilson and Toni George for an incredible adventure thorough Thailand. Our primary goal was to search out and paddle new & old whitewater runs and hidden waterfalls of this jungle paradise, while completely imersing ourselves in the rich culture. However, my trip had a secondary purpose. While there I was lucky enought to meet with Ply Pirom a 'Toxic Compaign Manager' for Green Peace, who informed me of a very serious problem facing Thailand's…See More

BETTER THAN YOU IMAGINED

This past year has been a very good one for myself. I've been able to paddle pretty much full tilt the entire year in a wide variety of locations, BC, Quebec, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, USA and the giant waves of the Ottawa & Saint Lawrence Rivers. Throughout the year I've been working with Five 2 Nine productions on a web based TV documentary called "CURRENTS" (to watch episodes of currents visit: www.five2nine.ca ). The first season is coming…See More

CURRENTS - Episode 6 - The Kimberley, Australia

This past winter I was fortunate enough to join an international group of 11 paddlers, to complete a 22 day expedition down Australia's largest river system, the Fitzroy River and its main tributaries. The Goal of our trip was to explore and document this regions vast and secluded beauty, rich cultural heritage and environment importance. Our hope is that by showcasing this areas values and the problems that are threatening it we will be able to create some awareness, and in turn gain support…See More

Thailand's Mae Sa River

Tyler Fox on the Mae Sa River in Thailand - Photo Toni GeorgeThe Mae Sa River is a quality stretch of white water within 30 min’s of the city limits of Chiang Mai. The put in is located at the Queens Botanical Garden and is literally on the side of the road, so much so, that it is more reminiscent of a ditch then a river. However, the river quickly veers away from the road and starts it descent. The first couple slide rapids are not so clean, and by that I mean they all pile into rocks, so we…See More
