Cataract Creek

Cataract Creek is your typical Alberta run, relatively easy with lots of ledges. It's a great introduction to creeking as all of the major drops are easy to scout and portage if necessary. For the experienced boater the highlights are Titan, a really nice 25 footer with a huge boil, and Leviathan, a tricky 40 foot slide with lots of sharp rocks and a big hole when the water is up. The rest of the run includes numerous rapids and ledges varying from 6 - 15 feet, making it a excellent day of…See More

Pictures

Recently I've had a couple of photographers pass along a few photos they have taken of me in the last couple of years. Some of the B-Roll shots they where unable to sell but graciously let me use for some shameless self promotion. Thanks Lucas Jungman and Ryan Creary.  Seeing these photos is getting me excited for spring so I though I would share them with you and…See More

"This is awesome. I'm the exact same size as you and was starting to get frustrated with my fit in the boat. What tool did you use to carve out the foot block? Looking forward to making these modifications."

How To: Outfit your proect X (for tall people)

At 6'1" and 165 lbs I have always had to choose between cramming my size eleven feet into tiny little boats or paddling boats that were too big for my weight. It was always a trade off between being comfortable and fitting my boat.  So when I picked up my Project X 56 I decided to put a little extra effort into outfitting the boat so that for the first time I could be comfortable in a boat my size.  Here's what I did. Step one:  Remove the thigh hooks. This will push your knees out a little…See More

"Yeah at 6'1 and 165 lbs I wish there was more bigger options, even just a bit bigger than the Habitat 80 and Diesel 80 would be awesome."

Summer Side of Life

Here is a little video I threw together for the Aquabatics Film Competition, just a short 7 minute montage of my 2011 summer paddling around B.C. and Alberta. Not my best season of paddling but still a good one, where I managed to get on a couple of new runs that I am sure will become classics once more people manage to paddle them including Spionkop and Boundary, both of which are featured in the video.EnjoySee More

Summer

Summer has been flying by and can't believe it's almost October. It was a busy summer with little time to process photos or video in the last few months.  Since early July some of the highlights include paddling some new-to-me runs Boundary Creek and the Ram, participating in the Callaghan Creek Race and getting back on…See More

Spring

This Spring in Alberta has been one of the best in recent years with a ton of water. I've been so busy getting out I haven't had much time to spend on the computer, so I'll just leave you with a few pictures and a short video of my first swim in the last six years. …See More

Early Season

While it seems like most of the northern hemisphere has been paddling for the last month or two, in the Canadian Rockies we are just starting to get water now. Enjoy a few pics from this past weekend. …See More

2010 Season Video including Stikine footage

Here is a little video I put together for the Aquabatics Film Festival, a fun little season ending get together. Yoho is my favorite river in the Canadian Rockies, Yoho is Cree for Amazing which is one of the best ways to describe the paddling in BC and Alberta. I had a great season from creeking in the Spring while filming for Kelsey Thompson's movie Locals Only all the way up to my trip…See More

Spillimacheen Virtual Tour

Why do I love the Spillimacheen River ? I short but sweet run in a deep canyon that runs late into the year even when nothing else around has water. I have paddled this run in early October when it was on the pushy high side and it has been run as late as the end of October. It often gets to cold to paddle before it gets too low. This past weekend there where a record number 20 boaters divided between three seperate groups on the water, which was really cool to see on a class 5 run. After…See More

Early Season Spilli

As always Alberta is slow to get water in the spring, my one solace is that I know once it starts flowing we'll be paddling until October. It gets really hard with all of the pictures being posted on facebook, from Buseater, Washington ,Oregon and anywhere else that has water in April.

Out of pure desperation we went out and paddled the Elbow at 3 cms while it was snowing, this run is best when there is 60 cms but it did mean time in my boat. The next weekend we drove three hours in…
